The invasion was now under way. THE LANDINGS The first landings were scheduled to take place at 0320hrs on the left flank of the invasion beaches. On the Amalfi Coast the US Rangers were to land at the small fishing harbour of Maiori, while the British Commandos headed to Vietri a few miles to the east. The Rangers landed on schedule, wading ashore on the small beach in front of Maiori. The 4th Ranger Battalion formed the first wave, and soon discovered that there was no enemy garrison in the village.
